General Practitioner (GP) - Locum
The Position:
The role of the General Practitioner (Locum) is designed to provide competent patient-centred care that addresses health needs and promotes wellness based on the latest evidence and guidelines.
The Locum GP is required to provide medical skill and expertise in the delivery of culturally competent comprehensive primary health care services as a member of a multidisciplinary team, in line with the model of care and in response to the needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community within the region.
Flexible opportunities, short- or long-term arrangement, with days/roster able to be negotiated.

About CRAICCHS:
Cherbourg Regional Aboriginal and Islander Community Controlled Health Service (CRAICCHS) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Organisation.
CRAICCHS objective is to provide increased access to quality primary health care, social and emotional wellbeing services to the Communities in the South Burnett regions. We operate practices in Cherbourg, Wondai and Kingaroy.
Key Duties:
- Provide excellent clinical care, in keeping with accepted best practice standards, and the CRAICCHS model of care
- Provide skilled health assessment, diagnosis and treatment services to patients
- Perform and oversee the delivery of comprehensive preventive health assessments and prepare client care plans that comply with MBS standards, for clients across the age spectrum, and provide leadership for the multidisciplinary team in delivery of coordinated care planning for clients with complex chronic care needs
- Order diagnostic tests as needed and checking and informing patients of results in accordance with the practice’s procedure
- Having a working knowledge of legislation and standards of general practice
- Maintaining a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate at all times
- Practice medicine in a way that reflects the organisations values and mission
- Maintain trust and professional relationships with patients
- Provide services courteously and respectfully, with regard to the cultural beliefs and needs of patients
- Charge for consultations in accordance with the practice’s policy whilst optimising uptake and income generation across the service through MBS billings
- Prepare reports and legal summaries for government departments and other relevant agencies e.g. Work cover, Centrelink, etc. as required
- Complete required documents in an accurate, efficient and timely manner
- Provide leadership in the safety and quality of clinical services delivered by the health team
Key Requirements:
- Vocational registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia
- Current unrestricted APHRA registration
- Current medical indemnity insurance
- Clear National Police Check
- Eligibility for an unrestricted Medicare Care Provider Number
- Minimum of two (2) COVID vaccinations (green tick)
- A background or awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and a commitment and willingness to working within a Community Controlled Aboriginal Medical Service
- Commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control
- Ability to effectively work within a diverse multi-disciplinary team which includes a range of non-clinical and clinical staff and community
- Experience with Chronic Disease Management
- Commitment to working within the principles of a Case Management framework
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all ages, demographics, ethnicities and social groups
- Commitment to patient centric care, approaching service provision with genuine empathy and interest in patients’ needs
- Demonstrated ability to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding patient and practice information
- Demonstrate an ability to work cooperatively and independently, and the ability to prioritise and organise
The Hours:
Regular hours are 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Thursday and 8.00am to 3.00pm Friday. We are able to consider flexible working options, talk to us to discuss.
