Practice Information:
This Community Controlled Aboriginal Health Organisation provides holistic health care services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Innisfail and surrounding districts.

Position Details:
The Practice & Community Nurse aims to deliver high-quality clinical care and comprehensive primary health services while ensuring these services are culturally respectful and tailored to the unique needs of the community. This role involves not only addressing immediate health concerns through effective treatments and preventative measures but also fostering an environment of trust and understanding by integrating cultural beliefs and practices into patient care. By doing so, the nurse promotes holistic well-being, engages in health education, and builds collaborative relationships to support the community's overall health and wellness

Qualifications & Experience:

  • To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of Aboriginal community-controlled health services and the concept of comprehensive primary health care. You should also have an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the social, economic, and cultural factors affecting the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Eligibility requirements include: Bachelor of Nursing (The Registered Nurse must have current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and continual maintenance of such registration Immunisation Endorsement, or prepared to obtain an immunisation endorsement Minimum of 12 months post-graduation experience within a hospital or a primary health care setting Holding an Open C Driver's License Holding a Positive Blue Card This pivotal role requires a dedicated individual passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of our Indigenous community, with a commitment to excellence in all aspects of their work.

Innisfail is the largest township of the Cassowary Coast Region and is known for its sugar and banana industries, as well as for being one of Australia's wettest towns. Innisfail is about 90 kilometres south of Cairns.
