This AGPAL accredited practice was established in 2019 out of the need to provide onsite and direct access to primary health care and social & emotional services and supports to approximately 400 students of Djarragun College, both day and boarding from prep to Year 12. Boarding students come from Cape York, Torres Strait Islands and the Northern Territory. In order to provide holistic, comprehensive and culturally appropriate & safe services and supports, this organisation is funded through philanthropic, in-kind and small grants.
Position Description:
The General Practitioner (GP) provides culturally safe GP services within a holistic and comprehensive culturally appropriate primary health model-of-care to achieve improved health outcomes for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through the provision acute illness or injury, prevention, early detection, chronic disease management, health promotion, support for social-emotional wellbeing by recognising and understanding the principles of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan 2021–2031 and National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ Mental Health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Current registration (or ability to obtain) with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
- Fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM or a minimum of five years of experience in General Practice
- Good communication skills, especially in cross-cultural environment
- Ability to work well under pressure and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary primary health care team
- Willingness and ability to accommodate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander values and traditions in clinical practice including willingness to take cultural advice form Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander staff, and awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history, and knowledge of current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Salary Information:
- $150 per hour
- Plus option for salary sacrifice
- 0.5% Superannuation
