To provide a high quality audiology service including audiovestibular assessment and appropriate management of audiological and vestibular conditions.

1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.1 Clinical

· Ensure all patient details are correctly entered into patient management software, Cliniko.

· Take a comprehensive patient history.

· Provide accurate audiovestibular assessments including:

o Audiometry including speech perception testing

o Tympanometry

o Video head impulse testing

o Cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials

o Oculomotor function assessments

o Auditory Brainstem Response

o Positional testing and canal repositioning techniques (CRT)

o Calorics (where required)

o Electrocochleography (where required)

· Provide the patient with feedback regarding audiovestibular function assessment.

· Provide the patient with appropriate management options following assessment. This may include the recommendation to see a specialist (ENT, neurologist, neuro-otologist), vestibular physiotherapist, or to be referred the University of Melbourne for TRV chair assessment if bedside CRT are not appropriate.

· Prepare appropriate and timely reports on clinical assessments which include a detailed history ad any post assessment recommendations. Reports are to be placed in a Cliniko folder for the consultant neuro-otologist to review. The Practice Manager is responsible for faxing reports to referring General Practitioner or Specialist.

· Where appropriate, write a referral for post assessment vestibular physiotherapy appointments. The Practice Manager is responsible for sending any post assessment referrals and patient letters once clinical reports have been approved by consultant neuro-otologist.

· Ensure all patient documents (referral, history and audiovestibular results) have been attached to the patient’s file in patient management software, Cliniko.

1.1 Administration

· Keep all disposable clinical items in stock. A list of disposable items and ordering details are provided the document Disposables ordering located in the housekeeping folder on the desktop.

· Resolve any equipment issues either independently or contacting the appropriate equipment representative when necessary. A list of the equipment with the appropriate rep can be found in the document Equipment Issues located in the housekeeping folder on the desktop.

· Alert the Practice Manager of any issues within the Clinic that cannot be resolved independently.

· Process Medicare payments when necessary.

 

2 SKILLS/COMPENTENCIES:

· The successful candidate must be able to exercise a high degree of independence in managing workloads.

· The successful candidate is expected to apply knowledge and experience in consultation with the practice manager to the resolution of day-to-day problems relating to the functioning of the clinic.

 

3 SELECTION CRITERIA:

 

3.1 Essential

· Masters Degree in Clinical Audiology or equivalent

· Member of Audiology Australia with clinical certification

· Experience in managing a clinical caseload

· Ability to communicate effectively with patients, their families and other professionals on service delivery and client based issues

· Ability to work with minimum supervision

· Demonstrated clear communication skills both written and oral

 

3.2 Desirable

· Experience performing audiovestibular function assessments.

· Experience integrating and reporting on audiovestibular function findings.
