Occupational Therapist | Mental Health
Do you have a heart that beats for transforming the lives of people dealing with mental health challenges?
Or, perhaps you have experience in other domains of occupational therapy and you’re keen to learn more about mental health?
About Us:
At ‘Do it with Purpose Occupational Therapy’, we’re more than just a leading allied health practice in SEQ. We're a team of skilled professionals, bound together by our shared commitment to enhancing the lives of those we serve. We breathe empathy, innovation, and quality service, and we are looking for a like-minded Occupational Therapist to amplify our efforts.
Our Mission
To shine a therapeutic light on mental health and psychosocial wellbeing by empowering all individuals to realise their potential, to improve daily function and live purposeful and meaningful lives.
Our Values - DIWP
Dedicated: Our unique team of diverse practitioners are dedicated to delivering quality service, building lasting relationships and holding themselves accountable.
Innovative: Our team are encouraged to think outside the box, and we are committed to continuous quality improvement, professional development and work in accordance with our professional standards.
Wellness-focused: You are not your illness. A statement so powerful, and freeing – and a perspective we all employ when working alongside you. We empower you to realise your potential and to live a life that aligns with who you want to be.
Personable: We are people persons. We believe meaningful connection facilitates growth and quality outcomes and we are committed to maintaining and strengthening connections with you and the important people in your life.
The role
You will regularly venture out and access the community to meet with participants in their homes, group residences, or community facilities; and/or engage with participants via telehealth services. We recognise the importance of work-life balance, granting you the freedom to adjust your schedule to accommodate personal commitments. This community-focused role empowers you to structure your day according to your preferences and that adequately meets the needs of our participants.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include assisting participants in achieving an optimal state of personal, social, and emotional well-being, tailored to their unique needs. This involves collaborative efforts to identify barriers to optimal functioning and implementing interventions that enhance existing skills, create opportunities, remediate, or restore skills, adapt environments or activities, and promote overall wellness.
Your expertise in conducting assessments, crafting tailored treatment plans, and delivering meaningful interventions will be your tools to transform lives, both within the framework of the NDIS and the life insurance industry. You will lead the development and management of capacity-building programs, conducting assessments within homes and communities, guided by well-established clinical protocols, encompassing current OT models of practice and a Recovery Framework.
Furthermore, you will play a vital role in educating participants, caregivers, and families on strategies to enhance their occupational engagement and performance. You will also collaborate in adapting home environments to cater to individual needs, fostering independence.
We equip you with the necessary skills to provide compassionate, individual-centred, evidence-based interventions for participants living with various mental health challenges. Your support may extend to individuals dealing with depression, generalised anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and neurodivergent conditions including ASD and ADHD.
At our core, we recognise the genuine importance of a balanced life—a frequently overused cliché, but undeniably true. As a family-centered business, we place a high value on work-life harmony (just ask any of our team). This personal approach is what makes us stand out, ensuring that your time with us goes beyond simply working and truly supports your growth.
In addition to mental health, there are opportunities to take your skills into other areas including working with people living with neurodivergence and operating within other funding streams including life insurance and case management.
If you have experience in other domains of OT, we would love for you to join us and share your knowledge with the rest of the team. Currently, our clinicians present with a mix of skills, including mental health, equipment prescription (AT), and we are fortunate to work with two fantastic mental health social workers who have experience in other areas including NDIS support coordination, counselling and have extensive experience PTSD and complex trauma.
You’ll Need:
- A Degree in Occupational Therapy and current registration with AHPRA.
- A history of supporting people with mental health challenges AND/OR a keen interest to learn more about psychosocial disability.
- Some understanding of the NDIS framework.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to learn.
- Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- A sense of humour (this above all).
We Offer:
- A profound value on work-life harmony. We are all parents (and/or fur-parents) and we truly understand the need for flexibility.
- A generous professional education allowance of $2000 per year that opens doors to worlds of wisdom and excellence.
- Mentoring, and internal and regular external supervision to nurture your growth. We are here to facilitate pathways for our clinicians to grow whether that be broadening your clinical knowledge; supporting less experienced clinicians or seeking increased operational responsibilities.
- Regular team catch-up social events to celebrate our achievements and foster team collaboration.
- Company phone, laptop and travel allowance provided.
- A team that celebrates each individual and their unique skills and interests.
Contract and part-time opportunities:
Wish to tread a different path? We’re open to part-time and contract discussions that best fit with your current situation.
Step Inside:
If you are a dedicated Occupational Therapist looking for a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the well-being of others, we would love to hear from you.
To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience and why you are interested in this role.
