General Practitioner

Position Overview:

The General Practitioner (GP) provides comprehensive medical care to patients in the community. As the first point of contact for individuals seeking healthcare services, the GP is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and referring patients to specialists as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

• Perform consultations with patients to diagnose, treat, and manage a variety of medical conditions.
• Conduct routine health checks, preventive care, and screenings.
• Prescribe and manage medications and treatments in accordance with best practice guidelines.
• Provide management of chronic conditions, such as diabetes, asthma, and hypertension.
• Offer emotional support and counselling to patients dealing with mental health issues or life challenges.

Record Keeping:

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
• Ensure compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations regarding patient information.

Collaboration with Healthcare Teams:

• Work collaboratively with nurses, allied health professionals, and specialists to provide comprehensive care.
• Refer patients to specialists for further investigation and treatment when necessary.
• Participate in team meetings and case discussions.

Patient Education:

• Educate patients on managing their health, including lifestyle changes, diet, exercise, and mental well-being.
• Provide information on preventive health strategies, including vaccination and screening programs.

Emergency Care:

• Respond to urgent medical situations, offering immediate first aid and stabilization until further medical support arrives.
• Provide care for patients presenting with acute conditions such as infections, injuries, and acute illnesses.

Practice Administration:

• Participate in the management of practice schedules, ensuring patients are seen in a timely manner.
• Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to maintain skills and knowledge.

Compliance and Reporting:

• Adhere to Australian health regulations and standards set by professional bodies such as the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP).
• Report notifiable diseases or incidents in line with public health guidelines.

Key Requirements:

Qualifications and Certifications:

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a General Practitioner.
• Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or equivalent preferred.
• Advanced Life Support (ALS) or similar certifications may be required.

Skills and Experience:

• Proven experience in general practice or a related healthcare setting.
• Strong clinical knowledge and the ability to diagnose and manage a wide range of medical conditions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with patients from diverse backgrounds.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems and other medical software.
