Some psychiatrists work in community health setting, where they focus on the psychiatric needs of a particular, often undeserved, community. A community health psychiatrist is generally hired to provide mental health services to members of the community who may otherwise be unable to access them. 

These mental health professionals are typically employed by the state or local government department responsible for providing community health services to a particular area of Australia. In some cases, community psychiatrists even offer mobile mental health care services, as they travel to rural areas or isolated communities with no other providers.
