A brand new  $1.1 billion hospital opened in Bendigo in January 2017, featuring 373 inpatient beds, 72 same-day beds, 11 new operating theatres, an 80-bed psychiatry services facility and an integrated cancer centre.  The city also hosts medical students from Monash University and the University of Melbourne at Monash Health, Bendigo, as well as the La Trobe University Rural Health School. Bendigo also has a private hospital and a day surgery, while there are hospitals in other towns throughout the region.
