General Practitioner
Participate in providing a range of culturally appropriate and comprehensive primary health care services to clients of Danila Dilba Health Service.
WHO ARE WE?
Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.
We work to address the social determinants of health including the broader issues that affect our people’s health, through evidence-based research and public advocacy. We also work to empower individuals, families, and communities to optimise their health.
WHAT WILL YOU FOCUS ON?
As a General Practitioner you will participate in providing a range of culturally appropriate and comprehensive primary health care services to clients of Danila Dilba Health Service. You will be highly motivated and work confidently as an independent practitioner, whilst contributing to the provision of health services as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will assist in facilitating the health service, to provide a high-quality standard of primary health care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide clinical services to clients in the acute setting while applying the principles of chronic disease management to appropriate cases.
- Participate in primary healthcare service delivery and development.
- Participate in screening, recall, follow up and referral processes.
- Partake in clinical audits.
- Participate in GP Registrar, Aboriginal Health Worker, medical student and nurse supervision, education, and staff development sessions to upgrade skills.
- Contribute to operational system reviews and improvement.
- Utilise the Communicare client management system and other associated systems to ensure that client records are maintained accurately and meet all legal obligations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Current registration as a General Practitioner with AHPRA.
- Fellow of the RACGP or ACCRM.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds.
- Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture, self-determination concepts and history and knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Ability to work independently, and as a member of a team, with strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to plan, manage and prioritise tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in a cross-cultural and complex environment.
- Demonstrated high standard of written and computer literacy relevant to the preparation of reports, correspondence, and with an understanding of confidentiality within context.
Desirable
- Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Primary Health Care within Indigenous Health.
- Previous experience in delivering primary health care services in the unique primary care environment of the Northern Territory.
- Accreditation or experience as a supervisor of GP registrars.
- The ability to use Communicare.
- Demonstrated competence in working with and understanding Medicare and the Practice Incentive Program.
- Understanding of Aboriginal Health Workers Career Structure/Competencies

- Current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) or the ability and willingness to obtain one
- Current CPR certificate or the preparedness to gain one within 6 months of commencement.
- Full vaccination against Covid-19 or evidence of exemption as listed on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)
- Current drivers’ licence
- Work right documents (Australian passport/birth certificate OR international passport with visa).

- 6 weeks annual leave
- 5 days paid leave during end-of-year shut down (additional to annual leave)
- Salary packaging up to $15,990 per annum
