With endorsements from the Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL), Mt Isa Medical Centre offers industry leading GP and medical specialist services. Affiliated with James Cook University, the medical centre also acts as a training ground for the community's future general medical practitioners. Mt Isa Medical Centre has received training accreditations from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).

The Mt Isa Medical Centre team is led by Dr Michael Mbaogu, a seasoned medical practitioner with a wealth of experience.

Dr Mbaogu has a keen interest in rural health, and is focused on bettering the health outcomes of those dwelling in less built-up areas. He trained as a GP in the United Kingdom, and practised there and in Canada before relocating to Australia. He holds fellowships in general practice in all 3 countries.
