Medicross Pharmacy Ipswich had it's beginnings as far back as 1898, when Mr. WFS Fox opened his pharmacy in Brisbane Street, Ipswich. In his time, very few medicines came ready prepared but were compounded and made to order.
In 1925 his son, W.S. Fox took over, then subsequently saw his daughter, Shirley, train to become a registered pharmacist in 1954. Fox’s pharmacy has serviced many generations of the Ipswich community.
After 107 years on that site, it was relocated to the newly built Medicross Medical Centre, on the corner of Warwick Road and Churchill Street to be known as Medicross Pharmacy Ipswich.
Today, although we are fortunate to have a wide range of readily prepared pharmaceuticals, there is still a need for compounded, tailor-made prescriptions. Sometimes your doctor may be unable to find a ready-made solution for your condition, perhaps because certain products may have been discontinued, contain additives or even because you may require a liquid or cream where only tablets or capsules may be available in a ready made medication.
That’s why here at Medicross Pharmacy Ipswich we have installed a modern, dedicated laboratory so we can prepare compounded products with state of the art specialised equipment in a controlled environment.
Our laboratory is the first of its kind (in modern times) in Ipswich. Patients no longer have to travel to Brisbane or Toowoomba nor wait for something via the post. They can come and talk face to face with the pharmacist directly in charge of the compounding of their script.
We like to think we are offering a modern version of what was a trusted service from times past while embracing all the benefits of new formulations and technology.
