SOCIAL SKILLS

We help children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, language disorders, and specific learning difficulties to understand and successfully negotiate social communication and high level language skills.

AUDITORY PROCESSING

We specialise in this vital area of literacy, which can cause problems with discriminating differences between speech sounds, being able to “filter out” background noise and developing good phonological awareness (sound/symbol) skills.

VOICE PROBLEMS

Both speech pathologists at Freedom of Speech have extensive experience in dealing with voice problems, whether they be due to incorrect use, physical damage or neurological conditions.

STROKE REHABILITATION

Freedom of Speech therapists are both rehabilitation specialists, who have spent the majority of their careers assisting people who have had a stroke recover or manage their communication.

NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS

An area of long-standing interest for both Karen and Kylie, we are adept at treating a wide range of neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s and Dementia-related conditions. Kylie is also a certified LSVT therapist, a technique with proven effectiveness in Parkinson’s disease.

STUTTERING

Practical, supportive strategies to help both children and adults who are dysfluent.

FAST FORWARD PROGRAMME

Karen has been involved in this programme for many years and is able to assist you in accessing this proven, neurologically-based computer training system for auditory processing disorders.

LANGUAGE

A core area of speech pathology, our therapists can assist your child with both receptive/comprehension and expressive language difficulties, to enable them to reach their academic potential.

AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS

Our speech pathologists can help both you and your child to understand the world around them better, develop logical strategies to deal with confusion and conflict, assist with social stories and routines to reduce anxiety, and teach cognitive strategies to help them deal with their own and others’ emotions.

LITERACY SKILLS

Build the skills required to make reading, writing and spelling easy and fun, including the development of sound/symbol association skills, scaffolding/mind maps, spelling rules, decoding and developing useful strategies for reading.

ARTICULATION & DYSPRAXIA (MOTOR PLANNING) DISORDERS

Correct you/your child’s ability to speak clearly. Kylie at Freedom of Speech is also trained in the PROMPT programme (Bridging level) which corrects oro-motor difficulties leading to unclear speech.

EATING & SWALLOWING DIFFICULTIES

Whether a result of stroke or other neurological conditions, Freedom of Speech will be able to assess your swallowing ability and advise you regarding texture, positioning and swallowing techniques to keep you safe.

EARLY LANGUAGE STIMULATION

Teach your child to talk, understand early language concepts and use language to organise their world.

AUGMENTATIVE & ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION

Including the provision of visual aides and teaching the basics of sign language.

DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

An area of special interest to Karen, who has worked for many years with both adults and children who are experiencing a wide range of developmental challenges.
