Profile Summary

Maud Street Medical Centre is a conventional general practice, focussed on service to patients.  We have a policy of doing as much as we can to assist patients. We have a liberal appointment system, with one appointment per hour being reserved for same-day callers.  We also have a generous sit-and-wait system: nobody will be turned away, but patients with appointments will be seen first.  Weekends and public holidays are run without appointments - all patients sit and wait but urgent cases may be seen earlier after being triaged by the nurse.

We pride ourselves on providing a friendly welcoming atmosphere, a practice where all patients are encouraged to feel at home.

Telephone Procedures:

We use an internal messaging system through Pracsoft to send and receive messages. These are often questions of scripts renewals or medication questions. If you are happy to write a script for a patient then a $5.00 script fee is charged to the patient.
Returning phone calls this is up to your discretion.
We do however discourage you to discuss matters over the phone as it often hard to verify the patient over the phone (one exception to this is INR results if GP controlled).

Pathology Recalls:

We have a policy in place that when an abnormal pathology/ radiology or hospital report comes in through the holding file we place the client on a return urgently recall.
The reception staff print this list out daily and call the clients back in for pathology results. These results are not given out over the phone (unless absolutely necessary) as it is too hard to verify the client over the phone.

INR are an exception to this rule as they need to have adjustments made to warfarin doses depending on INR result.
Pathology companies to use are Sullivan and Nicholades and QML. (Infinity pathology deals only with histology.

Histology:

We have 3 pathology companies that we can use for Histology's these are Infinity Pathology (deal only with skin lesions) and Sullivan and Nicholades (who do a clinical audit).
You can also use QML pathology.

Treatment Room Procedures:

We have a 2 bed treatment room and a 1 bed mini operation room. Both of these rooms are equipped with and adjustable bed.

IPAD Defibrillator: is located in the treatment room on the side of the shelving at the nurse's station. To use simply turn it on and follow the prompts this machine will talk you through the steps needed. This is automatically set at adult if this needs to be used on a child then the button for children needs to be selected.

O2 Cylinder: is located in the mini operation room and adult and paediatric masks can be found in mesh bags on the wall behind the oxygen cylinder. Please make sure that oxygen cylinder is turned off at the bottle as if it is not we lose oxygen.

Spirometry: We are equipped to perform spirometry's on those patients that require treatment, and also for asthma plans as needed.

ECG: We have a 10 lead ECG machine that is free standing with an inbuilt battery so if needed this can be moved to the patient.

U.S Machine: We have an Ultrasound machine located in the treatment room and offer muscular treatments on patients.

Portable BP Machine: The treatment room is equipped with a portable BP machine, with this machine is also the pulse oximeter and thermometer.

Procedure room:

We have a mini Operation room that is used for removal of skin lesions. This room is mainly used for procedures so that it is kept as sterile as possible. You are welcome to utilise this room as much as you like to remove lesions.
This room is already stocked with all the equipment needed to perform these procedures.
You will find everything you need on the shelves and instruments stored in air tight containers.
We have a steriliser onsite and do our own sterilisation on a daily basis.
If setting up your own procedure please ensure that sterile pouches are intact if it has a hole please put on nurse's desk for re-sterilisation.

Reports from Lawyers and Workcover:

Occasionally we receive correspondence from lawyers and or Workcover to complete reports.
Sometimes lawyers or other insurance bodies will give paperwork to the client for them to bring to their GP to fill out in a consult. This is not the way it works, we require a sign authorisation on the company's letter head to be able to release information.

Once this is received we can then release their records fees are as follows:

Medical Records $55.00 - release of records
Per Page cost $1.50 - per page of record.

At times you maybe be asked to write a report these are usually charged at a higher rate and discussed with the practice manager the fee you would like to charge but generally reports start at $110.00 and go up to $220.00 depending on report required.
Our Team
Why work with us
The practice has been in its present location for 5 years, built on an established client base from another location occupied for 23 years. The philosophy of the practice is altruistic - we serve a conventional GP demographic but purpose-built the practice to care for needy clients. We cater for the homeless, mental health patients and a substantial number of addiction patients. "Build it and they will come" - when the practice re-located we underestimated the demand and were overwhelmed by the numbers. This practice never has quiet periods. We provide a valuable service to the community, but the community rewards us with financial security.
The practice is well equipped, leaving nothing to be desired to meet discriminating standards. We are a teaching practice, having GP registrars throughout our history. We passed our first AGPAL accreditation assessment 3 years ago with very positive comment and have just completed our Level 5 accreditation with even more positive comment and specific accolades for our practice nurse and our practice manager.
There are three consulting rooms, a procedure room and a two-bay treatment room. Every room has a computer. We have four car parks, two under cover. We use Medical Director and PracSoft, with 5000 patients on our database.
Nambour is a country town. The Sunshine Coast needs no explanation - from coast to mountain hinterland, the best beaches in the world and the prettiest scenery in SE Queensland. Brisbane is an hour's drive down the highway. There is a smorgasbord of lifestyle choices, schools and recreational choices.
The price is negotiable, revolving around the income distribution during the transition period.
