Profile Summary
Intuitry is small practice, with a big heart.
We aim to provide a revolutionary service that guides people in letting go of the food and body rules and reconnects them to their authenticity.
We put together a team of humans devoted to helping people prioritise health to the extent that they personally value, free from moral obligation and sense of virtue, to be confident in navigating an eating pattern that serves them personally.
We guide people towards an experience of their in which they feel comfortable in their own skin and feel value in being more than a body, thereby experiencing less concern about how they look and more with who they are and what life they want to lead.
Where we began
Intuitry started its journey under the name True Body Nutrition and Fitness in 2010, providing multiple fitness classes and personal training, and then Dietitian consultations for numerous presenting concerns.
Originally just Russell Phillips, True Body's aim was always in the pursuit of making people feel good. But initially sought to achieve that by leading people down the path of healthy living, teaching them the (nauseatingly) right way to eat, train and live, to exist in the body that they want for themselves.
But through the wonderful teachings of our clients and their stories, it was apparent that something is wrong with the system. This began an important transition period for True Body.
Our Transition
The focus of True Body then shifted to helping people feel good through the pursuit of vitality, prolonging the ability to function as optimally as possible for as long as possible by choosing foods and movement that nourish the body.
But this isn't enough. We weren't doing enough by our clients. The focus of True Body was still upholding the blind pursuit of health, insisting upon its importance above all other values and was ignorant of equitable access to pursuing health promoting behaviours, and the conflation of health, weight, appearance and virtue. True Body, despite good intentions was unknowingly contributing towards the moralisation of being healthy.
The exploration of how to better serve people, lead Russell to better understand the spectrum of eating experiences. This ranges from clinically diagnosable eating disorders, through culturally normalised disordered eating practices, to the reliance on external sources of information on what and how to eat (dieting) and the on and off experience of the diet cycle, finally through to confident, natural, intuitive eating that serves a person well, in response to their internal cues and personal values.
In deepening our understanding of eating behaviours, we developed extensive knowledge and skills in how to best serve people across the spectrum, who have complicated relationships with food and their body. We proudly work to guide people who are seeking confidence in making food, body and movement choices that serve them well, to the extent that they are able, in context with their other personal values, without the guilt from not meeting arbitrary expectations of optimal health. We also pride ourselves in creating a space for creating a new relationship with the body, in which people can feel connected to the self, but at the same time developing a sense of worth that is beyond the body.
What we do now
In early 2022, we evolved into Intuitry. We now provide a service that prioritises the values of the people we work with. We still value health, but not at the cost of everything else. We've always been a weight-neutral practice, but now we strongly advocate for the importance of this and the disruption of diet culture.
Our expertise lends us to working largely with clients who experience eating disorders but not exclusively. If you don't like the relationship you have with food or your body, we're here for you.
