Broadmeadow Medical Centre was established in 1998.
We are a private practice operating as a service company, not a corporate company, which allows us to offer a more personal approach with our GP’s and patients.
Over the years we have developed a high standing in our community and provide a large range of services through both appointment and open clinic.
Our practice offers the unique services of Hunter Women’s Health, Dr Linda Thomas - clinical Psychologist, Dr Tilak Weerasinghe – Geriatrician, Dr Abu Sait - skin clinic, and Shelley Dagger – Dietitian. We also have Physiotherapy, Sports Physician and Pathology located in our building. A Chemist is planned as an addition in the 2016.
We administer flu and childhood immunisations and stock travel vaccines.
We are also focused on preventative healthincluding four-year-old health assessments, 45 – 49 year old health assessments, over 75 health assessments and Care planning for Chronic Disease Management for patients with Diabetes, Chronic Heart, Kidney or Lung disease. We participate in the CTG program and DMMR Medication Reviews.
Pre-employment medicals can be booked by appointment. Our center can facilitate appropriate medical screening for audiometry, spirometry, ECG and urine drug screening.
Practice Hours and Session Times:
A doctor’s typical working hours per day are flexible. Hours can be varied. Generally sessions are am and pm between 8am -1pm and 2pm-5:30pm. 1-2 being a lunch break.
We are open Saturday mornings 9-12, for doctors who wish to offer a Saturday service.
Nursing Home visits are not required, but can be arranged if requested.
Practice Staff
Our practice has presently, 3.5 Nurses, 1 nursing assistant, 5.5 full time equivalent GPs. 1 Geriatrician, 1 Psychologist, Practice Manager and 8 receptionists.
Two nurses are available in the treatment rooms. A third nurse is allocated to plans and assessments. Nurse assistant help with Medicals and other testing.
Location and Community
The Newcastle and surrounding area population is over 500,000.
It is a mixed social demographic. We cater for a diverse range of patients, from those of high socioeconomic background through to those who walk in on the day to use the bulk billing open clinic.
The nearest hospitals are the John Hunter Hospital and The Mater Hospital, which are within 3km.
Multiple education options are available, from primary to high school and University. The Hunter School of Performing Arts is located in Lambton Road, Broadmeadow and can be contacted on 02 4952 3355. Merewether High School is at Chatham Road, Broadmeadow, telephone 02 4969 3855.

Newcastle is home to beautiful beaches which are famous amongst surfers and enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. There are easy walking trails and cycling paths in the Newcastle area to explore and enjoy.
Newcastle has a thriving arts scene with many art galleries.
Newcastle boasts some 345 parks, which include 146 playing fields, 60 tennis courts, 87 netball courts, and 103 playgrounds.
Honeysuckle and the Harbour are great for a meal with a view. Foreshore promenades and open squares offer waterfront cafes and restaurants.
The Junction is Newcastle’s boutique shopping village. This area is a junction of designer labels and unique jewellery. The Junction also has a smattering of restaurants and cafes and is a popular spot for a weekend breakie after a dip at the nearby Bar Beach or Merewether Ocean Baths.
Broadmeadow is only a short distance from Westfield Kotara and Charlestown Shopping Centre. Broadmeadow is home to the Broadmeadow Racecourse which regularly hosts horse racing events.
It also includes the Energy Australia Stadium and the International Sports Centre. Other sporting facilities include a skate park and tennis courts. Local parks include District Park, Darling Oval and Myers Park.

Remuneration Potential
We are a mixed billing practice. Each GP decides their billing preferences, Bulk Bill or Private. Below is a list of private fees that most doctors prefer.
On average the number of patients seen per hour is 4 to 8 patients, depending on individual doctors scheduling requirements. e.g. Appointments or Open Clinic, length of apt.
We operate as a service company. An agreed % paid as the service fee on consult receipts, including SIP, reports and home visits.
