Miraa House was founded by the parents of a young woman with an intellectual disability.  When their daughter left school Norm & Sylvia found that there were no suitable post school programs, where their daughter could continue to learn, and develop her life and social skills.

After school their daughter constantly asked them where her friends were?  Being at home can be very lonely for someone living with a disability. They decided that they wanted to give their daughter, and other young women in the area, the opportunity to further their life skills, and to be given the chance to form real friendships, with other people close to their age with similar interests.
