Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that assesses, diagnoses, treats and works to prevent disease and disability through physical means. Physiotherapists are experts in the areas of posture and body movement (biomechanics). They work in partnership with their patients to assist them in overcoming their posture or movement disorders, which may have been present from birth, acquired through accident or injury, or are the result of aging or life-changing events.

Physiotherapists follow a specific clinical process when helping their patients recover from injury. This involves listening to their patients' needs, undertaking a thorough interview and assessment, and then working with them to devise the most appropriate management plan for their condition. This will include setting realistic, short/ long term goals and treatment outcomes. Physiotherapists can then draw from an extensive pool of evidence based treatment techniques designed to reduce patients' pain and stiffness, and restore/improve their mobility and physical function.
