Business / Provider Profile
With over 250,000 people living with epilepsy in this country, Epilepsy Action Australia is leading the way in ensuring those affected have the skills and knowledge to live the very best life possible. We also strive to give parents, teachers, caregivers, support workers, doctors and nurses the confidence, resources and information they need to support their specific needs.
As the leading and oldest provider of epilepsy services nationwide, we focus on improving self-management skills, increasing wider public understanding of this devastating condition, and are at the forefront of partnering and funding research into interventions and treatments.
All of this contributes greatly towards our aim of opening more eyes to this ‘invisible' disease and ensuring that those with epilepsy are able to live meaningful and independent lives, free of stigma and misunderstanding.
Breadth of Quality Services
Our comprehensive service and extensive ‘Knowledge Bank' of information offers support across all aspects of epilepsy, including seizure management and psychological care, and very much focuses on providing the skills and tools necessary to self-manage the condition.
As the national leading authority on epilepsy, Epilepsy Action improves and saves lives by offering the following key services:
a nationwide network of Epilepsy Nurse Educators providing education and services via phone, internet, teleconferencing and in the community
individualised service plans and seizure management plans
online access to quality information, resources and self-management tools
psychological, social and emotional support
access to a network of specialist providers
workshops
Many of our specialist services have been designed to cater to the needs of specific groups: children, parents, newly diagnosed, teenagers, seniors, disability workers and Indigenous Australians.

Why us
Leading Education and Training
Our Online Academy provides practical information and tools delivered through an easy-to-understand and user friendly interactive format. The training available covers general awareness courses for people with epilepsy and their families, as well as accredited courses for health professionals (e.g. GPs, registered nurses) and community service workers.
At the Forefront of Promising Research
As the oldest and largest nationwide provider of specialist services for people with epilepsy, Epilepsy Action remains at the forefront of research into the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. We fund and support the latest studies, including clinical trials of medicinal cannabis, and work collaboratively across many sectors and industries to advance our collective thinking, knowledge and direction.
Greater Public Awareness
Ignorance and fear about epilepsy and seizures still exist nationwide but through our public awareness campaigns and wider community education on seizure first aid and response, we are gradually moving towards replacing stigma and discrimination with compassion and understanding.
“It is estimated that over 250,000 Australians are living with epilepsy and approximately 3% of Australians will experience the condition at some point in their lives.â€
