General Surgeons Australia
General Surgeons Australia is the designated training body for specialised General Surgical training and the representing membership society for Consultant General Surgeons within Australia.
Our key objective is to ensure the provision of high quality, comprehensive Specialist General Surgical services – including emergency and planned services – to the Australian community; we continue to achieve this through continually-evolving specialist training, and medical education, research, and advocacy for our members.
In 2024, GSA has a membership of over 1,700 Consultant General Surgeons, Surgical Trainees, Specialist International Medical Graduates, and Junior Doctors who practice primarily within Australia.
We have close working relationships the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the New Zealand Association of General Surgeons, along with subspecialised training societies of General Surgery, and we are an official designated society of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI). We are committed to promoting both high quality training and the continuing medical education of our members.
