Our history
Since listing on the Australian Securities Exchange in April 1987, Sonic’s growth – from a single laboratory (Douglass Laboratories) to a global market leader – has largely been driven by strong organic growth and the acquisition of quality businesses that share a commitment to Medical Leadership and excellence. Indeed, Sonic’s collective history dates back to the early twentieth century when some of our oldest practices were first established.

Since the early 2000s, Sonic has successfully replicated its Medical Leadership model internationally, to become the third-largest medical diagnostics company in the world, with a global reputation for quality medicine and patient care. Importantly, our federated management structure also ensures that the leadership teams in each of our practices remain firmly embedded in their local communities.
