Why us
The Challenge
Osteoporosis is a chronic disease affecting over 1.2 million Australians and leading to over 173,000 broken bones each year.
The Impact
Breaking any bone due to poor bone health is considered a medical emergency. This typically involves an emergency department visit, surgery, hospital stay, rehabilitation and home care. This is a long and painful process which greatly impacts the individual, their family and the healthcare system. The direct cost of fractures accounts for approx 70% of the total cost of poor bone health in Australia.
The Solution
Increasing community and health professional awareness to achieve early diagnosis and improved management of poor bone health and prevent avoidable broken bones. In Australia we can tackle this national heath issue. We encourage the community, health professionals and government to be pro-active leading to less broken bones and a healthier future for people living with osteoporosis.
