WHO WE ARE
Choosing to have cosmetic surgery is a big decision. That's why it's important to do your research and know the facts.
ASAPS has been one of the peak bodies for cosmetic surgery in Australia and New Zealand for 40 years. We represent 300 comprehensively qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeons in the region. We are committed to making sure you receive the best advice, find an appropriately qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon and experience world-class treatment before, during and after your surgery.
Why is it important to choose a surgeon we recommend? Because anyone in Australia and New Zealand with a six-year medical degree can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon. As a consumer, this exposes you to a huge range of doctors with extremely varied surgical training and experience.
ASAPS can offer the guidance you need to choose a surgeon with outstanding cosmetic surgery experience and appropriate qualifications. ASAPS Members have eight to 12 years of specialist surgical training beyond their medical degree. Surgeons with this level of training are easy to identify because they have FRACS after their name.
All ASAPS members work with anaesthetists they know and trust, and perform surgery in reputable hospitals and clinics. Each of our members is committed to helping you achieve your cosmetic goals in a safe and caring environment, every step of the way.

Why us
We believe that best-practice cosmetic surgery is performed by Specialist Plastic Surgeons.
Building on a foundation of integrity, care and compassion, at ASAPS our overriding focus is patient safety and successful cosmetic surgery outcomes.
With the growth of the cosmetic surgery industry, there has been a surge of doctors calling themselves cosmetic doctors, cosmetic physicians or cosmetic surgeons. Unfortunately, many of these doctors are not Specialist Plastic Surgeons and their training is not recognised by the Medical Board of Australia, the Medical Council of New Zealand or the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
A Specialist Plastic Surgeon is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). A FRACS is necessary to gain specialist recognition as a surgeon in Australia and New Zealand.
At ASAPS, we are dedicated to upholding the highest standards in the cosmetic surgery field and committed to educating the wider public about the significant benefits of having their cosmetic surgery performed by a Specialist Plastic Surgeon.
HOW WE GIVE BACK
ASAPS members are passionate about using their skills and experience to give back to the community.
Collaboration can be a powerful thing, especially when it's put to such a good cause as the partnership between ASAPS and Interplast Australia and New Zealand.
Interplast sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia Pacific region.
According to the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery, an estimated 99 million people each year in Asia and Oceania go without the surgical attention they urgently need.
Through the partnership with ASAPS, Interplast seeks to recruit new surgeons to its program and to provide financial support to aid more people in areas where the help is needed most.
