Our vision is for the best possible healthcare system that supports a healthy Australia.
Our purpose is to drive collective action across the healthcare system for reform that improves the health and wellbeing of Australians.
Our membership includes state health departments, Local Hospital Networks and public hospitals, community health services, Primary Health Networks and primary healthcare providers, aged care providers, universities, individual health professionals and academics. As such, we are uniquely placed to be an independent, national voice for universal high-quality healthcare to benefit the whole community.

Governance
AHHA is a company limited by guarantee registered under the Corporations Act 2001 and registered as a charity by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

AHHA is endorsed as a Health Promotion Charity and holds Deductible Gift Recipient Status. Our work is directed at improving society through improved standards of healthcare in hospitals, primary and community health care, aged care and other health services and through research.

The rules of the organisation are described in the Constitution with annual reporting to members.

Our vision for reconciliation
The AHHA supports the principles of reconciliation and is committed to working towards it. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land, and we respect and value the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in Australia.
Why us
A unique and significant position
The Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association has held a unique and significant position in Australia’s health care industry, being the primary peak body representing the public health care sector.

It was established as the Australian Hospital Association in 1946, with the major teaching hospitals in Melbourne and Sydney as members.

In 1996, the name was changed to the Australian Healthcare Hospital to reflect the growing diversity in the membership base and the emergent policies at Federal and state levels focusing on out-of-hospital services.

In 2006, the name changed to how we know it today, bringing together its original identity while still reflecting its comprehensive membership base.
