Endocrine Challenges for the Dental Practitioner
Session Overview
Description
This session will look at the relevance of common endocrine disorders to the delivery of dental care by the dental practitioner.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Recognise patients with endocrine disorders
  • Provide dental care appropriate to each endocrine problem
  • Discuss the pathology of important endocrine disorders
  • Recognise and manage complications of dental health which can arise with important endocrine problems

The dental practitioner will encounter a multitude of medical diagnoses in their patients during their working career.

Increasingly, one of the common disorders diagnosed will be an endocrine problem. Therefore, it is necessary for the dental professional to be aware of the impact these disorders can have upon the safe delivery of dental care.

It is also increasingly expected that dental practitioners are able to monitor disease status and offer informed advice about many of these disorders.

Please note that the e-Den session in module Diseases and Medical and Dental Emergencies/Medical Topics and Dentistry/Diabetes in the Dental Patient (141-0058) looks at diabetes in more detail.
