This session will encourage you to further explore acting with integrity, behaving in an open, honest and ethical manner, as a healthcare practitioner.

Learning Objectives
This session will support you to:

  • Uphold personal and professional ethics and values, taking into account the values of the organisation and respecting the culture, beliefs and abilities of individuals
  • Communicate effectively with individuals, appreciating their social, cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds and their age, gender and abilities
  • Value, respect and promote equality and diversity
  • Take appropriate action if ethics and values are compromised

Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should complete sessions:

  • 1.2 Demonstrating Personal Qualities: Managing Yourself
  • 1.3 Demonstrating Personal Qualities: Continuing Personal Development

Clinicians face ethical and moral dilemmas on a regular basis, regardless of their clinical role or professional background [1].

This session will encourage you to explore clinical situations that have ethical context, prompting you to consider these from personal, professional and organisational perspectives, and in relation to your patients and your team.

This will enable you to raise awareness of the need for good communication in a range of contexts, recognising the need for value and respect. It will also help you to promote equality and diversity in your practice, ensuring you develop future strategies for dealing with ethical issues, particularly when ethics and values are compromised and ensure you act with integrity.
