Description
This session discusses the alarm symptoms of dyspepsia. It examines the causes of dyspepsia, with a particular focus on peptic ulcer disease and Helicobacter pylori (H pylori). It also addresses the indications for endoscopy and the management of dyspepsia.

  • Recognise the alarm symptoms of dyspepsia
  • Identify the indications for endoscopy
  • Describe the testing and treatment of H. pylori
  • Describe the management strategies to treat the underlying causes of dyspepsia

Dyspepsia is defined as a group of symptoms including:

  • Chronic or recurrent epigastric pain
  • Burning or discomfort
  • Post-prandial fullness
  • Bloating
  • Retrosternal pain
  • Early satiety
  • Anorexia
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
