Description
This session aims to provide a comprehensive overview of infertility with emphasis on work-up, diagnosis, epidemiology, management and complications of assisted reproductive technologies. 

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Define infertility and recognise the magnitude of the problem
  • Undertake a detailed history and examination of an infertile couple and plan the investigations
  • Recognise factors that warrant early referral
  • Identify the different management strategies
  • Recognise the principles and indications of various assisted conception techniques
  • Identify the risks of fertility treatments

Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should:

  • Read the NICE guidelines.

This session looks at the management of infertility and subfertility problems.

To begin, we will explore the definition of infertility and the magnitude of the problem.

The session will then go on to look at investigations, history taking and factors that warrant early referral.

Management strategies will then be covered before the session concludes by exploring assisted conception techniques and the risks of fertility treatments.

You will have the opportunity to test your learning at the end of the session.
