Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the further investigation and initial management of an asymptomatic patient with positive treponemal serology
  • Explain how to exclude Yaws, Pinta and Bejel from a travel and past medical history
  • List the range of conditions in which false positive treponemal serology may be found

Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should have completed:

  • Module 2/Diagnosing Syphilis (260-0023)

This session concentrates on the fundamentals of positive treponemal serology which covers the following points:

  • The management of asymptomatic patients with positive treponemal serology to include necessary clinical examination, confirmatory investigations, and the choice of antibiotic therapy
  • The place of partner notification for this group
  • The follow up arrangements and any requirements for continued serological testing as well as the management of serofast or serological relapses upon follow-up
