Examination of Extra-genital Sites
Session Overview
Description
This session will describe the examination needed to reveal extra-genital signs in a Sexual/HIV health care setting and will provide a practical guide to these clinical signs that are likely to be related to sexually transmitted infections (STI). It will also enable practitioners working in other health settings to identify and recognise these signs and consider a sexually transmissible cause.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe how STIs/HIV may be associated with physical signs in non-genital areas
  • Describe when it is appropriate to examine non-genital areas

Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should complete:

  • Module 1/Sexual History (260-0004)
  • Module 1/Clinical Signs in Genitourinary Medicine (260-0008)

In this session the extra-genital symptoms and signs of STIs will be covered.

This session will enable health care professionals, working in any health setting, to identify and recognise non genital manifestations of STIs and consider a sexually transmissible cause.

It will also list other genital conditions that may present initially with extra-genital signs only.
