Breast Cancer Treatments
This unit of study addresses treatment options relevant to individuals diagnosed with breast cancer. Topics localised treatments such as surgery and radiotherapy, systemic treatments include chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, and biological modifiers. Treatment induced side effects will also be addressed. Broader issues related to culture, body image and sexuality will be discussed along with the role of community support and follow-up.

Theme 1: Surgery for breast cancer
Compare and contrast the types of treatment available for breast cancer according to evidence based guidelines for specific clinical scenarios and pathology findings.
Theme 2: Systemic treatment for breast cancer
Evaluate current literature and research outcomes to identify appropriate treatment options and to ensure patients receive accurate information.
Theme 3: Radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer
- Analyse and evaluate current systematic treatments, local treatments and hormonal therapies to prevent or manage acute and latent side effects of single and combined treatments.
- Identify, synthesise and discuss the range of psychosocial effects a diagnosis of breast cancer has on individuals, their family and carers.
