Supporting Autism Spectrum Disorder course

This session allows for the development of further understanding of the management of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It also focuses on some of the related problems and difficulties experienced by children and young people with a diagnosis of ASD.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

• Describe contributions of differing interventions in the management of ASD including home- and school-based interventions, as well as the role of pharmacological treatment
• Describe support for sensory issues
• Explain the key principles in supporting anxiety and behaviour support in the child with ASD
