Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Develop a basic understanding of the presentation, diagnosis and management of adolescent issues relating to STIs
  • Record a sexual history to identify high risk sexual behaviour and give basic health prevention information on reducing STIs and pregnancy risk
  • Recognise when and where to refer young people to sexual health services

The management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is a large subject. In this session, the focus will be on the most common STIs affecting young people, highlighting specific adolescent issues which are important in managing their care. The latest information on the management of STIs can be obtained from the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) website.
