Essentials of wound assessment
This session discusses the importance of comprehensive wound assessment.

This session will be of benefit to health and care workers, practitioners and carers across any care setting. 

Learning outcomes
The learning outcomes and content of the session have been developed for Level 4 study.

By the end of the session, you should be able to:

  • describe the importance of wound assessment
  • recognise factors that may delay wound healing
  • recall the key steps in wound assessment
  • recognise terminology used to describe the wound
  • recognise changes in the individual's wound and surrounding skin and when to refer on for advice or support
  • record and report findings from a wound assessment
  • value the importance of good communication and interpersonal skills with the multidisciplinary team
