As a health care worker providing care or services to older people living in residential or home care you are required to practice in accordance with the requirements of the Aged Care Quality Standards.

This learning resource will also have relevance in all of other health care settings providing care or services to older people.

• Define and list the reasons why people behave in a verbally or physically aggressive manner
• Explain people’s right to work and live in an aggression free environment
• Discuss triggers for aggressive reactions and actions
• Describe the connection between aggressive reaction, actions and alcohol intoxication 
• Demonstrate a risk management approach to aggression including reporting incidents
• Consider how to respond to different types of aggression related incidents including emergency responses
• State strategies to remove or reduce aggression
