Urinary incontinence is a very common problem for women, often presenting to a primary care professional. This session takes you through the diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence, thus enabling you to help your patients.
This session was reviewed by Khyati Bakhai and last updated in August 2020.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Identify factors in the history which will enable you to advise and refer the woman appropriately
- Describe how to perform an initial assessment including pelvic examination
- Recommend lifestyle changes
- Discuss and describe when to carry out referral to appropriate primary or secondary care providers
Many Clincial Commissioning Groups (CCGs) now have open access clinics where patients can self refer, but the majority still present through the traditional route to their primary care physician.
Mike Cust is a gynaecologist with interests in urogynaecology and menopause. He trained in the East Midlands and at King’s College Hospital.
