The Role Of Calculus In Disease course for Dental Practice

This session will discuss the correlation between calculus and gingivitis.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the origins and composition of calculus
- Identify the effects of calculus on periodontal health
- Define the relationship between calculus and gingivitis
Dental calculus is hardened dental plaque found in the majority of adults, either supra or sub-gingivally. In populations with good oral hygiene, minimal supragingival calculus is commonly found on tooth surfaces adjacent to the salivary ducts. Subgingival calculus formation in these patients appears to have little effect on attachment loss.

Before commencing this session you should have knowledge of:
- Dental Plaque
- Plaque as a causative factor for periodontal disease
Noor qualified as a dental surgeon in 2001. She trained a further three years at the Eastman Dental Hospital. During those three years, Noor gained a Masters in Orthodontics from University College London and later qualified with a membership in orthodontics from the RCS (Eng).

During that time she gained further experience in treating complex cases that required multidisciplinary care including orthognathic and cleft management. She was also involved in teaching the undergraduate dentistry students at Queen Mary University.
Noor has been lecturing at the faculty of dentistry, RCS (Eng) since March 2011. She was awarded honorary lectureship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England - Faculty of Dental Surgery.
Currently, Noor works in specialist practice where she practices orthodontics exclusively and treats a variety of complex cases. She specialise in treating both adults and children.
In her leisure time, she likes to travel to learn about other cultures and also enjoys horse-riding.
