This session will provide users with core knowledge about the clinical features of retinal problems and the management of diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.
This session was reviewed by Khyati Bakhai and last updated in November 2020.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Recognise symptoms suggestive of vitreoretinal disorders
- Recognise hypertensive and diabetic retinopathy
- List the treatment options available for diabetic retinopathy
- Describe age-related macular degeneration (AMD) risk factors, ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ types and management options
- Recognise the urgency of referral for a patient with suspected wet AMD
Retinal diseases account for the majority of blinding conditions in the general population.
Conditions affecting the retina include diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and inherited retinal degenerations such as retinitis pigmentosa.
