The limitations of dental health education course for Dental Practitioners
This session discusses dental health education, and focuses on the role of the dentist in practice. It explores the relationship between health education and health promotion in outlining the key dental health messages for individuals.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

- state the evidence for the effectiveness of dental health education
- list the key dental health education messages
In your clinical career, whatever the setting, educating your patients to maintain their health and prevent disease will be a core service you provide.
Before commencing this session you should have:

Dr. Daly’s clincial career has focused on the care of special need groups and she spent 12 years providing direct dental services to homeless people in the three boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. Presently Blánaid continues her academic role at KCLDI, delivering an MSc in Dental Public Health, both as a face-to-face course and via distance learning. Her research interests are the delivery of oral health care to special needs groups, homeless people and development of outcome indicators for oral health promotion. She is a former president of the Oral Health Promotion Research Group.
