The GP as Service Provider course
This session will help you to understand how the General Medical Services Contract works and focuses on service definitions and the Quality Outcomes Framework.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the service delivery options and global sum
- Explain how Enhanced Services are delivered and paid for and how they help a practice deliver services tailored to its patient population
- Explain how the Quality Framework helps GPs maximise quality and income, and where to find relevant financial regulations
- Describe the different types of GP contracts
- Identify the role of the NHS Commissioning Board
- Describe the role of CQC and essential standards for Quality and Safety
Nearly all General Practice in the UK is provided by independent businesses that have a contract to provide medical services on behalf of the NHS
Fiona works in General Practice Management in a strategic and developmental role in a practice in Aberdeen and spends the rest of the week as an independent consultant in practice management.
Fiona is an experienced trainer and facilitator for the whole primary care team on a wide range of subjects. She is a Fellow and a Companion of the Institute of Healthcare Management.
Sandy Gower is managing partner at Bennetts End Surgery where she is responsible, with 11 GP Partners, for the management and leadership of this Training Practice serving 18,000 patients.
Sandy has 25 years experience of primary care management and patient participation. Her relentless passion for ‘making a difference’ throughout her career has resulted in her becoming the first Practice Manager to receive Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). She is immediate past chairman of the national Practice Management Network and co-leads of the RCGP General Practice Foundation for practice management
