Team Roles and Personality course for GPs
This session examines how an individual's personality, consequent behaviours and preferred styles and approaches can impact on others. It encourages reflection on personal behaviour as well as on the behaviour of colleagues. This session supports the development of leadership in a clinical setting.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the most common approach to identifying aspects of personality and behaviour of individuals in the workplace
- Explain the influence of personality type on behaviour and consider circumstances where preferred behaviours may or may not be appropriate
- Determine the consequences of individuals with different preferences and approaches working together within teams
- Demonstrate your contribution to leadership by identifying the steps you will take to increase team effectiveness
While the primary focus is on professional practice, all clinicians work in systems and within organisations. They have a responsibility to contribute to the effective running of the organisation in which they work and to its future direction.
Before commencing this session it is recommended that you should complete sessions:
- Introductory Module/Introduction to Leadership and LeAD
- Introductory Module/Introduction to Medical Leadership Competency Framework
Dr Andrew Brittlebank is a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist, based in Northumberland. He is Director of Medical Education for Northumberland Tyne and Wear Trust and Associate Dean for Postgraduate Education for the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Andrew’s interests include competency-based training and assessment, and leadership development and assessment. He has a Masters in Management and Leadership from Leeds University.
Outside work, he has been involved in the Scout Association as an adult leader and is a qualified outdoor instructor.
