Team Dynamics course for GPs
This session examines team dynamics. This includes what constitutes a good team in healthcare, the team's development, your contributions to a successful team, and how to intervene in and improve a dysfunctional team. It also gives you the foundations for successfully contributing to leading a team in a clinical setting.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Define a team and explain the differences between groups and teams
- Explain what constitutes an effective team and its development
- Recognise your personal contribution to effective team working and the skills required for leading a team
- State the interventions required for teams that are not functioning well
- Demonstrate your contribution to leadership through identifying actions to support effective functioning of teams
Before commencing this session you should complete these sessions in the Introductory Module:
- Introduction to Leadership and LeAD
- Introduction to Medical/Clinical Leadership Competency Framework
Sheila Peskett is a retired consultant in Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Medicine. She has had a number of medical manager roles in the NHS and now works part-time as Group Medical Director for Ramsay Health Care UK, an independent healthcare provider. She has had a lifelong interest in medical education in its widest sense and has been associated with Keele University since 2001 designing and delivering courses in Clinical Management and Leadership.
