Surgical Endodontics course for Dental Practice
This session provides an overview of the endodontic surgical discipline. It also provides instruction on current evidence based best practice for the undertaking of apicectomy procedures. The rationales for the use of root resections and hemisections are also discussed and illustrated with cases.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Explain the endodontic surgical discipline
- State the rationale for apicectomy procedures
- Identify how to plan and undertake an apicectomy procedure
Although decompression may result in complete resolution of the lesion, subsequent apical surgery may also be required to enucleate residual lesion.
Before commencing this session you should have knowledge of:
- The biological principles of intraradicular infection and chronic apical periodontitis
- The anatomy of the alveolar bone, periodontium and teeth, including root canals
