Description
Acute testicular pain is a common surgical presentation. The aim of this session is to familiarize the user with the common important causes of acute testicular pain and learn how to manage them.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the anatomy and physiology of the testicle and scrotum
- Recognise common causes of testicular pain
- Describe presenting symptoms and signs of common testicular pathologies
- Develop a treatment algorithm for management of testicular pain
- Describe signs, symptoms and management of testicular torsion
Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should (complete):
- Revise the essential details of testicular embryology and anatomy
Acute scrotal pain is a common cause of surgical admissions worldwide. A vast range of differential diagnoses and overlapping of symptoms can make this presentation a challenging one for the clerking doctor. The aim of this session is to recognize the emergency causes of acute scrotal pain and be able to promptly manage them by developing understanding of treatment strategies.
