Session Overview
Description
This session outlines the key features required to fully assess a patient presenting with a breast lump.
It also outlines treatment options for breast cancer including surgery to the breast, axilla and adjuvant therapies.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Outline how a breast lump should be assessed
  • Formulate a differential diagnosis for a patient with a breast lump
  • List potential treatment options for a patient with a breast lump

Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should:

  • Be familiar with how to examine a breast and be able to describe a lump
  • Know the anatomy of the breast and the axilla

This session aims to give an outline of the important aspects of breast disease- both for diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant disease. It is important to be able to properly assess a patient in a breast clinic and have an idea as to what investigations are required.

It is also important to know the treatment options available to patients with breast cancer and have an idea of who might be suitable for each option.
