Sudden Infant Death Syndrome course for GPs
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is a rare but devastating event for any family. This session covers the causes, risk factors and prevention of SIDS and also advice on how to respond after a death.

Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- define SIDS and recall current incidence rates
- recognise the risk factors for SIDS and assess the risk within your practice population
- recognise the opportunities available to advise patients regarding preventative measures
- describe how to respond appropriately in the event of a sudden infant death
Sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS, is defined as the sudden unexpected death of an infant aged from one month to one year.
