Effective dental radiography assists the dentist in effective patient case management. The dentist should be aware of the techniques that produce consistently good results and be able to identify when that top standard is not reached.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • identify the techniques required to deliver effective radiographs
  • describe the reasons for faults in radiographs taken
  • explain how to undertake an audit on film quality and acknowledge the importance of the audit
  • list the legislative requirements that impact upon dental radiography

The dentist must produce consistently high quality radiographic films to aid the diagnosis and treatment procedures.

The dentist also needs to be aware when the usually high standard of radiographic production falls and remedial intervention is required. This includes familiarity with the local audit requirements.
