Substance Misuse During Pregnancy course for Dietitians
This session aims to raise awareness regarding the impact of substance misuse during pregnancy and its impact on the neonate and infant. You will be challenged to explore the complexities of promoting health when there is a dependency on behaviour that is injurious to health. The session will present knowledge regarding substance misuse and will challenge you by using a problem-solving interactive approach to manage pre-set scenarios.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Explain the impact of substance misuse on the neonate and infant
- List the screening processes that identify behaviours injurious to health
- Describe appropriate health promotion messages that aim to enhance health
There are a range of drugs that are open to misuse, with novel psychoactive substances becoming available all the time. It would be impractical to include all of them in this session.
