This session provides an introduction to the available strategies for protection against erosive tooth wear.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Identify the key elements of erosive tooth surface loss (TSL) risk assessment
  • Describe the processes involved in erosive TSL
  • List the principles behind key strategies to help prevent erosive TSL
  • List the limitations of these strategies

Tooth surface loss (TSL) is a generic term used to describe the endpoint of a variety of processes that may, alone or in combination, work to produce pathological amounts of tooth tissue loss.

Entry Requirements / Prerequisites

Before commencing this session you should:

  • Have a basic knowledge of the effects of acid on enamel and dentine
  • Be familiar with the concept of critical pH and demineralisation

Satinder Chander,
Restorative Dental SpR

Satinder is currently working in Morriston Hospital as a Restorative Dental SpR.

He completed undergraduate training at Cardiff Dental School 2002 and completed a vocational training year in a general dental practice setting in Warwickshire.

Previously, Satinder completed a year as a maxillofacial SHO in the Coventry Warwick rotation then 6 months as a split post in oral surgery and as a restorative dental SHO in King’s College London Dental Institute.

Also, he completed 6 months as a paediatric dental SHO in Guys hospital and completed 1 year as a restorative SHO in a Leeds Dental institute.

He passed, with distinction, an MSc in Conservative dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute.
