Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the ‘Specific Problem-solving Skills’ domain of the RCGP core curriculum, Being a GP, and the learning outcomes derived from this domain
  • Apply these specific problem-solving skills to a case relevant to day-to-day patient care
  • Explain how these specific problem-solving skills may have an impact on your work as a general practitioner
  • Describe the ways in which problem-solving skills in general practice differ from those required in hospital practice

In order to offer patients effective and appropriate care, a GP must develop a number of specific skills for solving problems. These skills enable a GP to offer solutions that are effective and appropriate for the patient and their family in the community setting.
