This session outlines the aetiology and natural history of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), its relationship to cervical cancer and the role of human papillomavirus infection (HPV).
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- State the epidemiology and risk factors for cervical cancer
- Describe the development of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cervical cancer
- Detail the relationship between human papillomavirus (HPV), CIN and cervical cancer
- Describe the grades of CIN and associated histology
- Relate the grades of CIN to the likelihood of progression to cervical cancer
